Enhancing the heritage of the Kef medina
The Kif-el-Kef event highlights the heritage enhancement project for the medina of Le Kef that we’ve been running since 2021 in co-creation with young beneficiaries of the city’s professional research, experts in heritage, the humanities, creative people and various partners. The aim of this global project is to experiment with new approaches to the cultural, heritage and tourism offerings of Tunisia’s regions, focusing more on domestic, local, sustainable and high-quality tourism.
This convivial and promotional event is punctuated by ephemeral and long-lasting visits to the medina of Le Kef, based on digital innovation and human mediation, and including new services and products: re-opened and rehabilitated heritage sites, cultural and natural circuits, works of art created by in-situ residences, local produce, a souvenir store, etc.
Part of the built and natural heritage, as well as certain themes of the intangible cultural heritage of the Kef medina (gastronomy, tales and legends, Sufi songs, natural heritage, etc.), is being invested by Museum Lab and various collaborators, to stimulate a fertile dialogue between heritage architecture and contemporary creation, between agriculture and ecology (a major clean-up campaign was organized for the occasion with local residents and Tunisie Recyclage), between conservation and innovation, between memory and socio-economic issues.
